Family Fun and Learning Night: Earth Day Eve

The Carnegie Center was thrilled to welcome over 100 people for our FamilyFun and Learning Night: Earth Day Eve celebration. Students and families made bird feeders, worm houses, investigated the insect petting zoo, learned about birds from Wildbirds Unlimited, made potato porcupines, planted beans in a bag, so much more! Here are a few photos to recap:

Special thanks to Fazoli's for a wonderful dinner, and of course, to all of our awesome volunteers!

Young Women Writers Project

I could not say enough good things about the wonderful 9-12th graders that make up the 2008-2009 Young Women Writers Project. After completing a 5 week writing workshop series at the Carnegie Center, the YWWPers performed in a reading Friday evening to share their work with family and friends. It was a real treat!

The following morning, 15 4th and 5th grade girls were led in writing exercises by the YWWPers as part of a mentoring day. Special thanks to Bianca Spriggs for her supervision of this session.

Thank you to the YWWPers for being such a great group. I look forward to hearing you read again this fall at the Kentucky Women Writers Conference. Special thanks also to the Kentucky Foundation for Women for making this program possible.

Happy Monday!

FFLN Music Mania

The Carnegie Center was pleased to welcome 120 students and families for our March Family Fun and Learning Night, Music Mania.

Students enjoyed an instrument petting zoo with the Lexington Philharmonic, dance lessons from USA Dance, making their own instruments, learning the names of notes, interactive booths with musicians from the University of Kentucky, learning to play the spoons, and bluegrass music from Red State Ramblers. Plus so much more!

Here are a few snapshots from that event:
